All Newborns Should be Screened for Hearing Loss, Task Force Says (Newswise)

All newborn infants should be screened for hearing loss, according to a new recommendation from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Congenital hearing loss happens more frequently than other conditions typically screened for as part of a health care evaluation. Infants should be screened before they are 1 month old.

All newborn infants should be screened for congenital hearing loss that is present at birth, according to a new recommendation from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. The recommendation and the accompanying summary of evidence appear in the July 7 issue of Pediatrics.

Hearing loss group to meet (Moorpark Acorn)

The Hearing Loss Association, an educational/support group for hearing impaired people, will meet at 2 p.m. Thurs., July 10 in the multipurpose room of the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi. The program is an ice cream social with group discussions.

Mexican children receive gift of hearing (Kerrville Daily Times)

A group of impoverished children in Mexico are hearing for the first time, thanks to a group from the Hill Country’s NewSound Hearing Aid Centers. The group of 11 volunteers traveled to the Mexican cities of Monterrey, San Luis and Cuidad Victoria last month to provide free hearing aides.

Sign language in storms may get cut on TV Debbie Meranski, of Boynton Beach , hasn't forgotten her panic on the night Hurricane Jeanne thundered into South Florida nearly four years ago. And unless you are hearing impaired, you can only imagine her fright.
